Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. Alongside working to highlight the problems surrounding the targeted and sexist assaults on women and other minorities in online spaces she is dedicated to breaking the stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched in 2009 by Sarkeesian, university student who has been fascinated by issues that concern gender and feminism for quite a long period of. She had a plan to start an internet-based program that would examine gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. The attack wasn't enough to halt her. Instead, it increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women in pop cultural stories.
